AntiPop

Privacy & security

Privacy you can check.

No promises in fine print. Here is exactly what AntiPop switches off, what goes out only when you ask, and how we test it.

Switched off or replaced.

Services a stock Chromium build talks to on its own, and what AntiPop does instead.

ServiceIn AntiPop
Google Safe BrowsingLocalOff. Dangerous domains are checked against open lists stored on your device.
SpellingLocalFive dictionaries ship with the browser; no downloads and no cloud spell check.
Page translationOffGoogle Translate is switched off, with no “Translate this page?” prompts.
Google account, sign-in and syncOffHidden and disabled. There’s nothing to sign in to.
Usage statistics, crash reports, field trialsOffMetrics and reporting are disabled.
Component and model updatesOffNo background checks. Components update together with the AntiPop package.
Push messaging serviceOffGoogle’s push channel is disabled; ordinary site notifications still work.
Network time and IPv6 probesOffThe browser uses your system clock and doesn’t ping Google DNS to test IPv6.
Network geolocationOffNo lookup of your location by Wi-Fi or IP through Google.
Autofill server, optimisation hints, AI modelsOffAutofill stays local; hints, model downloads and predictions are disabled.
Media Router, domain reliability, link pingsOffDisabled — no background discovery or reporting.

Only when you ask.

Some things need the network. Each of them starts with your action — and on a fresh profile, none of them run.

Search

Your query goes to the engine you choose, after you choose it. Suggestions while typing are off until you enable them.

Blocking and protection lists

Downloaded from easylist.to and raw.githubusercontent.com when you press “Update lists”, or once a day if you turn that on. No cookies, and no information about the sites you visit.

Proxy check

When you test a proxy, AntiPop asks api.ipify.org for the exit address and measures speed with speed.cloudflare.com. The location itself comes from a local database.

Tor

Tor starts only when you open a Tor window, as a separate process, and connects to the Tor network’s directories and relays.

How we test

Silence, measured.

Every release goes through an acceptance run on the actual package. One of the tests: start a fresh profile, touch nothing for 315 seconds, and record the browser’s own network log.

  • Result for AntiPop 0.8.1: 0 external requests, 0 DNS lookups, 0 socket connections.
  • No firewall or DNS tricks during the test — the browser is simply quiet.
  • The same run checks blocking, dark mode, proxies, containers, Tor and protection: 14 of 14 categories passed.

Signed updates

The repository is signed with the “Nox OS Updates” key. apt rejects anything that doesn’t match.

Passwords re-check

Viewing or exporting saved passwords asks for your system password first.

Chromium sandbox

Sites run in Chromium’s standard sandbox; the engine is updated with the package.

Honest limits

Local lists are weaker than Google Safe Browsing. A Tor window is not Tor Browser.
